It's not safe to start pressing right now, unless you want to lose the remainder of the hair that is relaxed.

The best thing to do is, is to grow the relaxer out and go for regular trims and wash and sets. Meaning, go every two weeks and get your hair washed with a good moisturizing conditioner and shampoo and then have your stylist trim 1-2 inches of the relaxer off. After all the relaxer is out and your hair is back healthy you can begin getting press and curls. But, even then you want to be careful, that's extreme heat and you may just want to stick with getting a good blow dry or try Bio Ionic, it's a flatiron and blowdry process that infuses moisturizers in the hair keeping it healthy.

If you don't want to go with the in between stages of growing you hair out, cut all the relaxer off now and start to grow your hair naturally. That way you have healthy hair all the way around.

And finally if those don't sound good I suggest getting braids or a sew in until your hair grows back in healthy and long enough for you to manage natural!

Remember always moisturize, and for the thinning area try a product called New Growth it's a concentrated hair oil in a white bottle with green writing it costs about $8 and is usually behind the counter at beauty supply stores, I gurantee it will make that area thicker! Good Luck!

You should either let your hair grow out with protective styles [braids, twists, sew ins] or cut off the relaxed hair now. You shouldn't press your hair while transitioning because you could damage your hair even more. And to be honest, I think you should learn to love your natural texture and rock your hair proudly, because heat damage can leave some straight pieces/looser texture pieces in your hair.

You are going to damage your hair even more by pressing it. Let your hair get back healthy first .
