African American female hair help 4 tomorrow!!??

the best way to get this style is to flat iron all the hair in the places where you want the humps at the top bump it with the flat irons and let the rest of the hair fall with the flat irons pulling the iron closer to the side of the ears close to the head.the bangs just take the curlers %26amp; curl them like you're going to roll them.let us know how it comes out you should have told me earlier I woyld have did a live video to show you exatly how the style is done.

African American female hair help 4 tomorrow!!??

put like four rollers at the top to add volume and sit under the dryer when finished straighten the hair left down take the rollers out put oil sheen on it and wrap when u take down in the mornin it should look full

African American female hair help 4 tomorrow!!??

African American female hair help 4 tomorrow!!??

If I'm seeing the right pic., you just want to add the body? If so, wrap your hair in BIG rollers rolled down. Pretty simple, hope it helps :)

African American Sister ,has balding spot in the top of head hair is thining at front what are styes

African American Sister ,has balding spot in the top of head hair is thining at front what are styes for me.

You could get a lace front weave. How about a full weave or some braids. How long is your hair?

I am a 16 year old african american girl, i have a serious problem with my hair breaking daily, what do i do?

No one knows African-American hair better than a salon that specializes in it =) If you check around the internet or the Yellow Pages, you should find a salon with people qualified to help you. Good luck =)

I am a 16 year old african american girl, i have a serious problem with my hair breaking daily, what do i do?

Stop using so much heat and start wrapping it at night. Weekly hot oil treatments will help too.

I am a 16 year old african american girl, i have a serious problem with my hair breaking daily, what do i do?

use a heat protector on your hair and give it a good deep conditioner every 2 weeks

I am a 16 year old african american girl, i have a serious problem with my hair breaking daily, what do i do?

All of the above advice is good. (I am bi-racial and an African American hairstylist recommended Biosilk to me, but I really didn't like it except as a finishing gloss.) Use a hot oil treatment, gentle shampoo and deep conditioner everytime you shampoo. Try not to use heat to style your hair everyday. Instead, every three days or even weekly, you could use a round brush and a hair dryer on low to straighten your hair, or let it air dry and then use hot rollers. At all times be very gentle with your hair, it is special to you and sounds beautiful.

Do you think the perms may be causing damage? Make sure you follow the instructions and don't wash your hair the day before. Or you might want to stop perming your hair. It sounds weird but I have been using Palmer's Shea butter lotion to smooth out my hair in really dry spots and it actually works great as long as you only use a touch where you need it.

To My African-American sistahs...how do you take care of naturally long hair?

Currently, I have shoulder-length hair and whenever I try to grow my hair out longer, it starts breaking off. What kind of care can I do to reduce breakage. My ends get very dry--what can I use to keep them moist yet not too "greasy". And for those sistahs who date and especially those who date outside of the race, do you allow your man to run his fingers through your hair? Does he ever complain about your hair being "greasy" and if so what do you do about it?

To My African-American sistahs...how do you take care of naturally long hair?

Well, i have naturally long hair and i wash my hair once a week with "Doo gro"(It's supposed to keep your hair healthy and it prevents breakage) and i don't put chemicals in my hair like relaxers and perms (if you get perms stop, try buying some good flat irons). And please don't put loads of grease in your hair it makes it look funny. Try motions leave in scalp treatment, it gives your hair a natural shine without making you're hair look or feel greasy at all!!

To My African-American sistahs...how do you take care of naturally long hair?

Since when do us African-Americans spell sisters-sistah's?

To My African-American sistahs...how do you take care of naturally long hair?

well im dark brown skinned with past the shoulder lenght hair..and I wash my hair once a week with Alberto V05 split end conditioner and Motions spray leave in conditioner.....then I wrap my hair and let it dry on its own..after it dries it usually has too much volume and is very dry..so I put in some Motions hair lotion and wrap it tightly once again ..hair is ready to unwrap in about an hour..and yes i let my boyfriend run his fingers through my hair..because he loves to do so

To My African-American sistahs...how do you take care of naturally long hair?

Hey! i'm Black and I have a sexy white boyfriend... lol. He loves my hair... which is about two to three inches past my should. I where my hair curly...( i'm half black and half puertorican.. but my hair is more black) I wash it put leave in conditioner and cream in it and put some like mouse or pantene pro-v curl gel. He loves playing with my hair when it's curly!! When it's straight... I go to the dominican and have them condition and blow dry my hair... he likes it too. Afterwards i wrapp it... my hair tends to get really greasy if i start to put all that heavy grease in it. And that's when he complains but he knows that i'm black and that's how black people hair is. Also use leave in conditioners- which conditions without it being heavy and keep it natural. Try to wrap it at night with a silk scarf. And massage the scalp which helped alot for me. Also use intesive conditioners. Good luck!! I LOVE MY WHITE BOY!!!

To My African-American sistahs...how do you take care of naturally long hair?

I don't date out my race, but my man runs his fingers through my hair. My hair is not greasy to the touch, because I spray it with Isoplus Oil Sheen. I also use Dr. Miracles Hair Oil or Doo Gro Hair Oil twice a week.

Do a lot of african-american women wear wigs or have fake hair?

I'm not sure what's exactly being said but I don't like generalizations being made about black women and the whole weave/wig thing. I've never worn weave, and its not because I have what they call "good hair". I have decent hair and I take care of it. Most black women who wear weave, wear it by choice because they choose not to take care of their hair. Its quicker to do extensions, and easier, and they can make your hair grow. But I wouldn't say most of us do, but that's too much a generalization. And if you don't know to look at or what you're looking for you're not going to know if its real or fake anyway, which is the point.

Do a lot of african-american women wear wigs or have fake hair?

yes, a lot of weave.

Do a lot of african-american women wear wigs or have fake hair?

A lot do...extentions are very popular.

Do a lot of african-american women wear wigs or have fake hair?

yes, they do.

Do a lot of african-american women wear wigs or have fake hair?

Yes some do. NOTHING wrong with that.

I dont. I have that "Good Hair".

Im starting to see ALOT of white woman getting on the "Track" with weave. lol.

If your trying to say most "african" american woman do then NO.

Just like most white woman do not get ALOT of plastic surgery.

Do a lot of african-american women wear wigs or have fake hair?

yes, but so do alot of Caucasians. Jessica Simpson has a whole line of wigs and extensions.

Do a lot of african-american women wear wigs or have fake hair?

If you're referring to black women then no... just like a lot of white women don't get fake boobs or a lot of spanish women don't necessarily have to like j. lo... what kind of question is that???

Do a lot of african-american women wear wigs or have fake hair?

SOME black women may wear weave but it's not any different from a white women wearing weave. Alot of white celebrities like paris hilton wear weave, alot of WOMEN wear weave period.

For an African-American woman, what would be a good low-maintenance hair style a bit on the conserva

I'm 47, a single mom, and recently became semi-disabled. In the past, I've usually had short, sassy hairstyles and relaxed my hair routinely. But after I became ill, I pretty much let my hair go and have let it grow out without doing much to it aside from washing and moisturizing. It's now about five inches long, and is in need of a good trim and style. But I need something that will be VERY low maintenance, because I'm short on time, energy and money these days. I also tend to sweat a lot more than I used to. What can I do to my hair to make it look decent when I go out, but also stand up to the times when I'm bedridden and feverish for a couple of days straight? I'm really not into dreds. Not that I have anything against them, but I just don't think they're well suited to the shape of my face. If only jheri curls were still in style! (joke)

For an African-American woman, what would be a good low-maintenance hair style a bit on the conservative side?

There are micro braids you can get. They are much thinner than regular ones and they can last for 3 months if you take care of them. They are so thin that you can style you hair in any way or not at all and still look good.

For an African-American woman, what would be a good low-maintenance hair style a bit on the conservative side?

As an African-American woman myself, i think you can NEVER go wrong with micro braids. You can style them in all sorts of ways, very, very low maintenance, and at times when you are not feeling well, just tie them up with a nice silk scarf or bandana.

I have a link to a website that could give you some ideas.

For an African-American woman, what would be a good low-maintenance hair style a bit on the conservative side?

I hear you on the jhericurls( boy is that a blast from my past) :-)

I don't think dreads is the answer but using the same technique and black gel, twist it. Here is how is done. Saturate the hair with the gel after shampoo and dry, then you start applying it in the section you are working to ensure proper saturation. With the tip of a skinny round brush start turning the hair until it kind of curls back into the strand let it sit there and continue. If you saturate well enough the style will last you well enough the end result looks like a bunch of little curly cubes the gel gives a Lotta shine.

good luck and a speedy recovery.

For an African-American woman, what would be a good low-maintenance hair style a bit on the conservative side?

The wrap hair style

For an African-American woman, what would be a good low-maintenance hair style a bit on the conservative side?

as an african american women with a strict dress code at work i usually just wear a bun. you can put them up with dry or wet hair and only a little gel is required

For an African-American woman, what would be a good low-maintenance hair style a bit on the conservative side?

I would say a wrap but if your hair sweat a lot then I am not sure if that's a good idea. I suggest like others, microbraids. Microbraids is very low maintenance and can be done in many styles (down styles and updos).

I'm African American woman what do I do to straighted my hair with out a hair straightner or ir

I have frizzy and tangles in the hair and whenever I iron my hair it gets even worse. My hair is shoulder-height hair. What can i do to keep it straight or detangled with having my hair always wet?

I'm African American woman what do I do to straighted my hair with out a hair straightner or iron.?

Go to an asian salon, there's this new japanese permanent hair straightening method, it doesn't damage ur hair and afterwards it issoooooo straight,,, I mean so straight that if tornado blows it after a sec i'll go bck to normal, it'll feel sooo light, and soooooo soft, fine, shiny and if u take good care it last about about 1 year. I get it done every year, if u need more info jst ask.

I'm African American woman what do I do to straighted my hair with out a hair straightner or iron.?

Use a relaxer or blow dry it straight with mousse.

I'm African American woman what do I do to straighted my hair with out a hair straightner or iron.?

Do what people did back in the early 60's.Have a Friend Iron your hair, with your iron.

I'm African American woman what do I do to straighted my hair with out a hair straightner or iron.?

Use a relaxer, you can find them at most bueaty supply stores, ethinc stores and even Wal-mart oddly enough, but you will still need to use a flat iron to keep it very flat.

I'm African American woman what do I do to straighted my hair with out a hair straightner or iron.?

u could go to a salon and get it relaxed

I'm African American woman what do I do to straighted my hair with out a hair straightner or iron.?

l've tryed hair gel, put it all over your hair, comb it back and let it dry then comb it out, it works for me,

I'm African American woman what do I do to straighted my hair with out a hair straightner or iron.?

mabey you are using the wrong iron..make sure its a ceramic iron.....or mabey try a diffrent style..i ushally have my hair in a flat wrap...wash hair, wrap it,put wrapping lotion on it,dry under hair dryer, grease it and thats it..it comes out straight.i flat iron it sometimes..just becouse sometimes it may be puffy..but it ushally comes out right.

I'm African American woman what do I do to straighted my hair with out a hair straightner or iron.?

Get a pressing comb

I'm African American woman what do I do to straighted my hair with out a hair straightner or iron.?

To detangle your hair properly you need to use a good moisturizing conditioner on your hair after shampooing while it is still wet. Apply a generous amount of conditioner and gently comb it through wet hair with a wide tooth comb from the ends to the roots. Apply some hair oil, and gently braid it and let it dry. When it is dry it will be partially straightened on its own. If your hair is natural, avoid combing it while dry because you will cause hair breakage. If you want to press your hair, follow the tips at this link: http://ofranklin.wordpress.com/2007/01/1...

Naturally curly hair African-American i want it straight for a holiday party and back curly afterwar

Hi!!! I think that your best option is to iron it!! You have to do it with a special iron, and don't forget to use a haircare product after it, because you can get your hair burned!! and iron your hair with time because curly hair is more difficult to straight.

Naturally curly hair African-American i want it straight for a holiday party and back curly afterward? HELP?

Use a straightening iron or have it blown out

it will only last until you wash it.

Naturally curly hair African-American i want it straight for a holiday party and back curly afterward? HELP?

Naturally curly hair African-American i want it straight for a holiday party and back curly afterward? HELP?

Help with African Hair?

Ok well I am African American and I want to know what should I

use after I wash my hair to keep it smooth and straight? I have a wonderful hair straightener, but my biggest problem is when I walk it flys up and stays there, and it looks really bad.

For example when I come out of the hair salon and the stylist does my hair it's nice, and not weighed down with grease. And when I walk it doesn't fly up, it stays down and looks great.

What can I put in it so it will be straight, smooth and managable and most of all it doesn't fly up?

So for all the African American Women/Girls what is your routine for doing your hair after washing it?

I blow dry it, put grease in it. [This time I used pink lotion.]

Then straighten it in little sections.

Then I wrap it.

Help with African Hair?

My hair used to always do that "fly up and stay there" thing.

You either:

*have a lot of "new growth" (the curly hair that comes in that you relax) which is lifting up your fine relaxed hair.

*You have very fine hair and u put too much product on it.

You could try flat ironing your hair bi-weekly (as in twice a month). I wouldn't recommend anymore since flat irons are so damaging.

Do not use pink lotion or grease. You better not be putting that junk on your scalp either! And wrapping puts too much tension the scalp and hair (depending on if you wrap the same direction each time and how you wrap it). I hope u use a satin cap.

You could always do a rollerset if you have hair that goes past your armpits, it will probably take a while! There's a great tutorial here:

http://healthytextures.typepad.com/my_jo...

MY instructions:

1)shampoo w/ Creme of Nature RINSE

2)Deep condition under hooded dryer with Organic Root Stimulator Replenishing pak or Nexuss Humectress RINSE

3)put hair in magnetic rollers

4) sit under hooded dryer until hair is COMPLETELY dry

5) you can do a saran wrap treatment if you like (instructions are on above link, search the site under "tutorials")

You could also do a braid (or twist) out which basically leaves you with wavy hair. To do this, after shampooing, put WET hair in braids/twists. When dry (i wait overnight) unbraid. Do not make too many braids.

Help with African Hair?

You can try Biosilk Silk Therapy when you blow-dry it with a comb attachment. You can also try Fantasia IC Heat Protector Spray (which costs less) before/ while you flat-iron it. Both of these work very well for me and I have natural hair. You can find both at beauty supply stores.

African American woman with dry and itchy scalp and losing hair.?

I've been getting relaxers for over 20 years every 5-6 weeks and I've never had a problem. For the past few months I've been suffering from dry, itchy scalp.About 5 weeks ago I used Scalpicin to relieve the itch.I asked my stylist if I should wash my hair before the relaxer.I told her it was an itch relief product but I didn't tell her the name. She said it should be okay without washing before. While she was washing my hair, after applying the relaxer, my hair started falling out from the root. For the past month it has gradually been falling out when I comb it.I had shoulder length hair which had to be cut into a short bob.It still continued falling out so now I have a very short hair cut all shaved in the back and only a little at the top.The stylist says it was because of the Scalpicin.I don't know what to think.Maybe it's b/c I'm stressed.I don't want to use relaxers anymore.I want to go natural.Any tips for relieving the itch and going natural? My hair is thick, dry, coarse and sensitive

African American woman with dry and itchy scalp and losing hair.?

First off getting relaxers every five to six weeks is asking for trouble. Even on the box they say to wait at least 6 to 8 longer if you can. Trust me it is way more healthier fr your head, but since you want to transition I can help with that. I am close to six months post relaxer myself and it looks as if I am transitioning. A itchy scalp can come from build up from the products your put on your hair. Most likely a clarifying shampoo to remove it will help and then a good conditioner for moisture. When transitioning to natural you can so one of two things. Cut your hair down to the new growth and wear a TWA (teenie weenie afro) until you hair grows out. If you don't want a short cut you can grow your natural hair out for as long as you can stand then cut. In other words don't get a relaxer for a year of more and when your new growth is a decent length then cut. Just make sure you keep the new growth moisturized and combed to prevent matting (tangles) which will cause breakage. I hope I didn't confuse you but if you have any questions e-mail me.

African American woman with dry and itchy scalp and losing hair.?

you need to check with a dermatoligist

African American woman with dry and itchy scalp and losing hair.?

1st of all relax. getting stressed will make the problem worse. use mosturising shampoo and conditioner for dry damaged hair. i like pantene coz its good for such cases. also use pantene oil replacement cream it relieves the dryness and itchiness.

then use hair serum which is a good anti-frizz agent like kerastese. with time ur hair will look and feel better

African American woman with dry and itchy scalp and losing hair.?

Please girl, no sane black girl would do that.

African american scene hair?

the only black person with the emo type of hair cut is rihanna, and it's sad because she had to straighten her hair or perm it.

African american scene hair?

um not true to what the first ppl said. my best friend is african american, and she's scene. ppl go up to hair all the time and say "i wish i had hair like yours" or other african american ppl say "you have white ppl hair" whatever, who cares. you want scene hair, then get it, whose stopping you. no one. ill send you some pics of my friend. just email me to let me know if you want them.

African american scene hair?

No!!!!!!!!!!!!

African american scene hair?

I really wouldn't go short, I've got mix hair and I find anything above my bra strap is too hard to control.

If you have long hair, get it relaxed, have a weave and then get them to cut it as it'll be easier to style

African american scene hair?

Just find a picture of anyone with the hairstyle you're looking for. If your hairstylist is open and talented enough, she'll know how to get your hair texture to look like the picture.

African american scene hair?

The girl doesn't have to be black if you want the same haircut. Any picture of the cut you want will suffice, and I don't know of enough black girls with "emo" hair to provide a picture. Frankly, I hate emo hair, but I do like Rihanna's cut which looks sort of emo.

Do you think girls would be interested in dating an African-American albino teen with long blond hai

I know this sounds like an inane question but i'm interested in knowing the answer. I have a vivaciously humorous personality and I am very intellectual. Some people may joke about this if they want but I really dont care.

Do you think girls would be interested in dating an African-American albino teen with long blond hair?

My younger brother's girlfriend is albino, I think she's hot!

By the way, for those that are saying how can you be african-american and albino w/ blonde hair...

"ALBINO" is not a race. An african american couple can create an albino child just as well as caucasian or anything else although i haven't seen anyone albino that wasn't either listed above.

being albino, your hair can either be white, blonde or a strange reddish color.

Do you think girls would be interested in dating an African-American albino teen with long blond hair?

Heck yes cause I could call him Al because hes albino!! lol

Do you think girls would be interested in dating an African-American albino teen with long blond hair?

I don't get how your African-American and albino with blonde hair but I don't think it should matter what you look like. I say if you're nice not ugly anda great guy any girl would love to date you.

Do you think girls would be interested in dating an African-American albino teen with long blond hair?

i don't know how you could be an african-american albino, but alright :) i would date you i you cut your hair, i hate to see guys who have long hair. you sound like an ok guy, and having a sense of humor is a great quality, as well as being smart. good luck bud- cut ur hair

Do you think girls would be interested in dating an African-American albino teen with long blond hair?

I guess it doesn't really matter if you're "African-American" because ALL albinos are in a race to themselves. And you sound adorable! Yes, there are girls that would love to date albino teens. Some girls like blonde hair and light eyes %26amp; will fancy your looks. It should be easy for you to find a nice, attractive girl. No sweat. However, in your case I would open my options a little. As in, open to dating girls from all races, and not box yourself in. Opening yourself a little will increase your chances of meeting the right girl!

What is the best african american product you can use to make the hair grow back, after a relaxer is

My daughter's hair has really broken off badly, since she got a relaxer. I'm looking for a product to bring it back thicker and stronger.

What is the best african american product you can use to make the hair grow back, after a relaxer is put in it.

I too had the same problem.. my hairstylist recommed a weekly deep conditioner(dry under hairdryer if possible). constant brushing and wrap it every night. Get a some oil all the different type of oil and mix them all together(ex. carrot, mink, shea oil) and apply after each wash. In addition, I when to the GNC store and purchase Inositol(she might too young to take these pills)it has been six months and my hair getting back to normal. oh don't forget to cut her ends.. very important every two weeks.. Best to go to a hairstylist, but if it's not affordable above information is best..good luck

It is ultimate herbal oil growthor triple grow.

What is the best african american product you can use to make the hair grow back, after a relaxer is put in it.

There is no particular type of hair solution to be honest. Most people use a variety of stuff on their hair. I personally love the mane and tail shampoo and conditioner. You need to get her ends clipped and start a haircare regiment. The next time you want to straighten her hair try a "hot comb instead of chemicals.

an ayurvedic shampoo . go to an Indian store and ask for HAIR MAGIC.

how much is going to cost for making hair like that?

how do they wash thier hair

who like this kind of hair and what does it mean

What is the name of a hair style which the hair is weaved to each other. most african american like this?

It's cornrows and it depends on where you go as to how expensive it'll be. We don't wash our hair when it's in cornrows, it will mess up. Further yet, we don't wash our hair as much as whites do. It would damage our hair.

Some places will take advantage and give you high prices but most blacks do each other's hair for free. If you have a black friend, they might know someone who will do it for you for maybe $25.

Cornrows is a style that originated from Africa and is still used there. It was just a different way of styling our kind of hair.

What is the name of a hair style which the hair is weaved to each other. most african american like this?

hehe is called a weave.

you wash it like normal hair but carefully.

a good weave starts at about $1000 for real hair thats sew'n in

it means you hair is weaved lol

To my african americans about hair...?

I want to know how come you can't get braids after you just had a relaxer/perm will it mess up your hair or something. And is getting braids good or bad for your hair. Cuz my sister told me that it'll make your hair grow but my friend says it'll break it out...which is it?

To my african americans about hair...?

aside from all the other answers of weakening the hair. Fresh after a relaxer hair won't hold the braids well at all they would pretty much slip right out. Braids encourage growth unless they are too tightly in which case the hair will snap from the stress

To my african americans about hair...?

it will grow

To my african americans about hair...?

-maybe the relaxer perm makes your hair tender(because the scalp gets burned)

-maybe beacuse its hard to put braids in straight hair.

-Your hair grows regardless. How big you make the braids and how long you leave them in are the 2 factors which determines whether it breaks off or not.

To my african americans about hair...?

I dont really wear braids anymore like i use to when i was younger but sumtimes it depends on ur hair texture, i have wavy hair thats very soft bcuz im mixed, but braids can be a good thing and a bad thing bcuz u can condition ur hair while u have the braids in, if you take care of them well while u have them then they will help ur hair grow, if no then it will break ur hair off, and u should never have them braided too tight thats like the worst, ur edges will fall out. but jus keep them conditioned well. And about the relaxer/perm thing its not good because the hair is weakened and it has to build back up, you should give atleast two weeks or more for it too get its strength back.

To my african americans about hair...?

The chemicals in relaxers dissolve the bonds in your hair to make it straight, so braiding straight after relaxing will just make the hair even more weak.

From personal experience I had my hair braided with synthetic extensions for about 3 or 4 months last year and my hair grew (I think it was about an inch and a half but I can't remember). Though I must say since then I've had my hair relaxed a few times and my hair is breaking like crazy!

To my african americans about hair...?

you cant get braids directly after a relaxer and you cant get a relaxer directly after braids. it causes stress on your hair. things like too much combing and pulling on the hair will break it off. this is why sometimes girls who have braids around the edges of thier scalp get the little bumps there because they pull their hair back or they are always moving the top layers away from their face. which causes tension and pulling, hair isnt elastic, it isnt meant to reach to unnatural lengths.

to answer your other question it would depend on the girl. braids are healthy for your hair if you dont leave them in too long and if you manage them welll while you have them in. the every day combing and straightening is what can put added damage to your hair. (if you are constantly flat ironing or curling it creates hot spots in your hair and it fries that particular spot and thats exactly where it will break at.) with braids it works the same way. too much tension at the scalp can cause it to break as well.

(using anti breakage and scalp revitalizers can help to make it stronger for curling and heat.)

some girls believe braids break their hair off because they begin to shed when they take thier braids down but depending on how long they keep them you have to remember that your hair sheds everyday about an inch or two and so there will be some breakage. however if you notice extreme breakage i would suggest not wearing the braids.

i wear braids occasionally but my hair is at its longest point then ever and i havent had braids in about a year. i wash my hair every 2 to 3 weeks, i do deep conditionings everytime i wash it and i perm it every 6 weeks.

some girls dont really think about this one but once you have a perm it will grow your hair too if you have it on a schedule and you are consistent you can train your hair to become healthy and stronger and it will grow longer.

To my african americans about hair...?

Because perming your hair after taking out braids puts too much stress [tight braids and THEN turing around and putting chemicals in it!?!? a **BIG** no-no] all that strain on your hair will probably make it fall out :(

Wait a couple of weeks so that your scalp can "recover" from the stress of the braids, then relax it :)

GOOD LUCK!

How can I get my hair to grow if I'm of African American decent ?

Im only 13 years old and I know that im still growing and maturing and everything but, its been, like 3 years, since i cut my hair (not including getting trims) and it wont grow past my mid-back. I am very grateful to have the length i have now but i was just wondering what i could do to make it grow longer. Is there any solution?

How can I get my hair to grow if I'm of African American decent ?

well I think it should just grow its self, I went to get my haircut a couple years ago and it grew long by itself!!It just takes some time!

How can I get my hair to grow if I'm of African American decent ?

Every person has a geneticly determined hair length. It sounds like you've hit yours. So just take good care of what you got.

How can I get my hair to grow if I'm of African American decent ?

PLEASE DO NOT GET A PERM...AND IF U ALREADY HAVE ONE TAKE GREAT CARE OF IT...AND THE LESS YOU DO TO YOUR HAIR...THE MORE IT SHOULD GROW...by less i mean dont use heat on it every day!!!

How can I get my hair to grow if I'm of African American decent ?

Provide that your hair follicles are not blocked----try "Dr.Miracle hair care products

How can I get my hair to grow if I'm of African American decent ?

try taking the type of multivitamins designed for pregnant women.not only will they help your hair grow, they should also make it stronger and healthier, the same for your nails and skin too.Top models take these to look their best. They work because they are more concentrated than normal vitamins, because prgenant women and young people need more vitamins and nutrients.I hope this helps.

How do I maintain my brittle, dry, relaxed hair in between salon visits? (I am african-american)?

I really want to become an expert at caring for my hair. I am seeing a stylist, but I really want to cut her loose. She is loud, gossipy and often says things that are inappropriate. However, I feel obligated to go to her because she has given me a certain cut, that only she would know how to maintain.

Also, she keep recommending products for me to buy that do nothing for my hair. She accuses me of using heat in my hair everyday, which I don't. I only use heat when I wash my hair (1x a week). Then she keeps whining that if I saw her every 2 weeks, my hair would look better. I'm sorry, I do not have that type of money.

I am really tired of her and all I want to do is find some great products that will improve the condition of my hair while I am looking for a new stylist.

Please help me!

How do I maintain my brittle, dry, relaxed hair in between salon visits? (I am african-american)?

My stylist does the same thing- accuses me of using a straightener every day, soo annoying.

Do you deep condition? I really don't know what to tell you :( sorry but good luck!

How do I maintain my brittle, dry, relaxed hair in between salon visits? (I am african-american)?

What you do is go to a beauty supply store. You get an ion condidtioning packet and apply it to wet hair. Leave it in for a few and then blow dry your hair. Hope I Could Help!

How do I maintain my brittle, dry, relaxed hair in between salon visits? (I am african-american)?

Use a cholesterol treatment on your hair. This provides the nutrients that your hair looses when you use chemicals. It also moisturizes your scalp and hair. Also get a good conditioner to use every time you shampoo. If your hair is in really bad shape, you can choose a leave in conditioner. If you are not satisfied with your girl, let her go. I am sure you can find someone even better to take care of your hair. Good luck!!

How do I maintain my brittle, dry, relaxed hair in between salon visits? (I am african-american)?

Do you moisturize your hair? If not, you should try the Olive Oil brand hair lotion or their hair moisturizer/hair leave-in conditioner. You want to put a little bit on everyday to keep your hair soft.

How do I maintain my brittle, dry, relaxed hair in between salon visits? (I am african-american)?

i had a stylist just like that my stylist used to complain about how dry my hair was, and how brittle it was all the time. i stopped going there. i wasn't paying her to complain.

you should also find another stylist to do your hair

limit the amount of relaxers you get done. take better care of your hair. i recommend the organic root stimulator line especially the olive oil lotion, hair mayonaise, and the repleninshing pack. they make my hair really soft and helathy looking.

http://www.organicrootstimulator.com/

also go to this website they talk about all kinds of black hair issues.

http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/

hope this helps.

How do I maintain my brittle, dry, relaxed hair in between salon visits? (I am african-american)?

In between your salon visits, there are several things you can do to improve your hair and keep it healthy.

1. Make sure to deep condition at least every other week. You can also deep condition weekly alternating with a moisturizing deep conditioning treatment and a protein conditioning treatment (always follow up the protein treatment with a moisturizing conditioner).

2. Try to avoid heat as much as you can. You say that you use heat once a week. In what capacity? Is it just blow-drying or flat ironing or both? You can learn how to do roller sets which are a really healthy option for relaxed hair. You can also do other heat-free styles such as braid outs in which you braid your hair while it's wet and then take it down when it's dry for a nice wavy look. You can also just wash your hair and wear it in a bun for a few days. Develop various heat-free styles to eliminate some of the heat on your hair. Go for using heat maybe every two weeks.

3. Make sure you're keeping your ends trimmed. So if you're going to the salon every 2 months, get your ends trimmed then. Or learn to trim your own hair. You said you have a certain style that only your stylist can maintain. Not sure if you're planning to grow that out or not but it's difficult to do your own hair if it's in a difficult style. So, you'll have to decide if you want to grow it out.

4. Make sure you're using good products for your hair. Are you paying attention to how your hair feels when you do your own hair? Are you using good shampoos, conditioners, and styling products? Keracare has a great line for relaxed hair (as well as natural hair).

5. Take good care of your hair at night by keeping it covered with a satin scarf and moisturizing your ends every single night. This will help keep your hair from getting tangled and getting dry leading to split ends.

6. Watch your hair when you're outside. Pin it up if it's windy so the wind won't dry it out. Keep it off your wool fabrics in the winter.

7. Make sure you're using the right tools on your hair. Use seamless combs like bone combs which you can find online. Sally Beauty Supply also has some bone combs. Only use a soft brush like a boar's bristle brush or even a baby brush. (Never brush your hair while it's wet.) Use an ionic blow dryer and a ceramic flat iron or curling iron for heat styling.

I hope these help! Good luck!

How come some african-american women say that we should keep our hair n a natural state?

imean, my hair is natural, but it is very hard to manage if i leave it alone and poofy.. but listen 2 what she has 2 say.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOgmMFxHK...

what do u guys think??

How come some african-american women say that we should keep our hair n a natural state?

That's just her opinion. I say if you want to wear your hair natural, go ahead. If you like waves, get a wave nouveau. If you like straight, relax it. It's your preference. My hair is natural, long and healthy and it is not hard to manage, it take about the same effort as when I was relaxed (and it was long as healthy then as well). I always liked styling my hair in different styles while relaxed and I do the same with my natural hair. I don't tell others that they MUST have natural hair. My mother is relaxed and my sister is as well. I love styling their hair and who am I to say my natural hair is better - please! Regardless of what style you choose (natural, straight, wavy, afro, etc.), if anyone looks at you, you're still black.

How come some african-american women say that we should keep our hair n a natural state?

I can't really relate to african-americans who have kinky hair because my hair is more on the wavy side from my indian roots. My hair is not really hard to manage, its only hard when I don't know what hairstyle will fit my face. Not all african-americans have kinky hair though, that only applies to the ones that do. If an african-american has kinky hair they can always go to the hair dresser for tips on what to do with their hair besides just perming.

How come some african-american women say that we should keep our hair n a natural state?

okay .. being mixed with black and other stuff i know what hair like this is like . she acts like black women are the only ones who get their hair done .. white people, asians, mexicans, they do it too ! and there is nothing wrong with it .. and yes long straight hair is looked at as more attractive because of the society we were brought up in .. but i agree that it looks better too ! im sorry to say but if i was working for some corporate company as boss and a woman came in with kinky hair like the lady in the video i would think twice she just looks unprofessional .. and it IS hard to manage .. especially if you have length .. dont give me wrong you should be accepting of your heritage and all but technically most of the black women in america ARE american .. so by fault there gonna go along with there customs .. if shes trying to tell us that we should "embrace" our race why doesn't she learn swahili and learn how to hunt with a spear .. not saying that all africans speak swahili and hunt with spears but i hope you get my point .. and there is a HUGE diffference with hair that is nice waves or curly .. opposed to kinky hair .. and the lady in the video did a twist thingy and thats NOT natural .. and on top of that , shes just trying to be different

What is an in-expensive product that i can use if i want my hair to grow. i am african american.?

i dont know if there is an actual product for that, or everyon would have it.. what you could do is keep it hydrated with alot of oil to prevent breakage, and dont use alot of products, like relaxers and spritz which will make it dryer. the healthier you eat and the amount of sun you get will also determine how long your hair grows

Anyone know where I can get quality 100% Indian hair?

I want to get my hair done amd I was told that is the best type of hair for African American women.

Anyone know where I can get quality 100% Indian hair?

Here is a website...but I would call around to your local salons and ask them if they use it and ask where they get it..and do the research to ensure they are telling you the truth (they can get it cheaper that you will be able to)...and make sure they provide you with a free consultation. But if you can find it online cheaper..then I would go that route. My cousin does this type of work....so I kinda know a little bit about it....

Which is the best haircut for an african american girl with veryvery short black hair?

I always loved the way Halley Barry's hair looked when it was short, just take a picture of that style, and go to a salon that knows what they are doing. or Jada Pinkett Smith's both look great.

Which is the best haircut for an african american girl with veryvery short black hair?

a weave

Which is the best haircut for an african american girl with veryvery short black hair?

it depends how short it is

Which is the best haircut for an african american girl with veryvery short black hair?

crew cut

(Im serious)

Which is the best haircut for an african american girl with veryvery short black hair?

i think that spiking your hair would be fashionable and cute=)

Which is the best haircut for an african american girl with veryvery short black hair?

Bald looks good on cultural blacks in Africa.

Which is the best haircut for an african american girl with veryvery short black hair?

A pube curl

Which is the best haircut for an african american girl with veryvery short black hair?

table cut.. like will smith in fresh prince days. it seriously looks cute on girls.

Which is the best haircut for an african american girl with veryvery short black hair?

If it's not cut even, then get it cut even, and then get it curled all over at the beauty shop; with the little curling iron ......... Or you could just go 2 the beauty shop and let them hook it up for you, short hair is very cute and very easy to do........... So GOOD LUCK............ I hope I helped you girly.

Which is the best haircut for an african american girl with veryvery short black hair?

you can get a weave, or if you plan to cut it, if your head is square shaped, then you should shave your head like sort of square shaped, or what ever the shape of your head it like.

Which is the best haircut for an african american girl with veryvery short black hair?

You could go to a stylist and get your hair cut to about 1/2 - 1 1/2 inch (if its not that short already) and then get it texturized. It would look something like this, http://www.thehairstyler.com/images/cele... . Or you could get a short spikey, choppy type style like this, http://www.geekstuffs.com/wp-content/upl... or like this, http://gracemagazine.files.wordpress.com... . If you want long hair then I would suggest a lace wig. It is one of the most undetectable type of hair extensions. They are worn my a number of celebrities including Tyra Banks, Beyonce, Carmen Electra, and Jennifer Lopez. Here is a site that shows some good examples of them, http://www.crownanglory.com/gallery.html . I actually have one for sale on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie... . Check it out!

I am African American but I have this long lusciously curly hair.?

when I say long i mean just a 2 inches below my shoulder when curly, and down to my mid back when straight. Well, anyway, my concern is so many people are denying that it is my real hair. I HATE IT. They ask me, Is this your real hair? I respond yes and they give me that look. I know I shouldnt be effected by what people think about me but it is there any advice, to deal with girls being bitchy towards or talking about me?

In case it helps, Im 14 just entering highschool.

I am African American but I have this long lusciously curly hair.?

The truth is you'll never be able to stop people from talking about you because some people are so insecure about themselves, they have to find something about you (et al) to put down to make themselves feel better.

When someone asks you if that's your real hair, a quick response is, "Yes, is that yours?"

I am African American but I have this long lusciously curly hair.?

i had the same problem in school. (even now). i have long hair down to my butt almost. people would yell at me and say i was wearing weave (even if i wore it DOWN) they never say anything tp the ones that really did have weave. They are just jealous girl. i had to deal with the b itchy jealous girls too. just flaunt your hair and make them hate even more! haha

I am African American but I have this long lusciously curly hair.?

I hate to give you an answer that is cliche, but it is the truth. They may very well be jealous of your hair, or they are just haters (is there a difference??). Anyhow, you already know that you shouldn't be affected by what people (mostly females) say about you, so what I would do is just ignore them.

I am African American but I have this long lusciously curly hair.?

They hating because they don't have your hair. Get over them. You know your hair looks good and so do they.

I am African American but I have this long lusciously curly hair.?

don't pay attention to them, ignore them and don't feed into their stupidity. As long as you take care of yourself and it doesn't turn physical, I wouldn't worry. Most likelt they're talking crap b/c they're insecure about themselves. Walk w/ confidence and you'll be fine.

I am African American but I have this long lusciously curly hair.?

They want your hair. :) ppl do that to me also, i have curly hair to! but im not african american, i have olive skin does that count for anything? lol

I am African American but I have this long lusciously curly hair.?

hey it must look really good on u if u want you can straighnten it it would look really good then

tell thim its my real hair bitchess pull it!!!!!!

I am African American but I have this long lusciously curly hair.?

they're just haters. my friend had long hair down to her lower back and people would be jealous of her and stuff just because their hair was broken off and couldn't fit into a ponytail. just ignore them, don't stoop to their level.

What product for African-Americans can I purchase (as a non-beautician) that will make my hair reall

if you look for the olive oil line , they have a shine serum , and its really light

HELP!!! I am black/African American, and I can't find a GOOD hair product!?

When I go to sleep at night on my pillow, or wear a hat during the day, my hair is extremely matted down and is very tangled, and my hair is like one big dreadlock.

I wear my hair natural, so it's curly usually. It's not that i want to wake up or take my hat off and have my hair be flowing all over the place, but I WOULD like for it to come out of the "shape" that it's in.

Does anyone know of a product that I can put on my hair when it's wet (i wet it every morning) so that it won't get so matted all day? Thanks.

HELP!!! I am black/African American, and I can't find a GOOD hair product!?

I'm using Exoctic allure from www.exoticallure.com My hair is growing an inch per month. My skin as flawless and my nails are long. My hair is very conditioned, strong, thick, and shiny.Fast Grow is an essential Black hair care tool for the following reasons:

閳?Faster hair growth

閳?Healthy Hair

閳?Stronger hair

閳?Improved hair manageability

閳?It can help heal damaged hair breakage

閳?It can increase the black hair growth rate

閳?It can help hair resist the damage from hair relaxers

閳?In reality, the only way to get healthy, damage resistant hair is through proper nutrition and that's exactly what Fast Grow provides.

It is made of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and botanical oils. It does not contain any man made drugs.Fast Grow provides a potent formulation of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that the body needs to grow strong, healthy hair, skin and nails.

It also contains biotin. I notice my face clearing up after 2 weeks. I love this product. I plan to have waist length hair by the end on the year.

I love natural hair. Some times I want a straight look. I am using bodiphier.www.freshlookhair is the website. It閳ユ獨 a natural relaxer that閳ユ獨 made out on vitamins, minerals, water, and etc.. I love it because it doesn閳ユ獩 burn, and no chemicals is added. It閳ユ獨 self neutralize. I can scratch my hair the same day and not worry about burns. It閳ユ獨 super soft. It doesn閳ユ獩 break the bonds in your hair. It causes your hair to straighten by 85% which allows you to keep your natural hair texture. You can wear your natural hair because bodiphier loosens the bonds in your hair instead of breaking them like traditional perms and relaxers. Say goodbye to split ends because my hair is healthy. If I want to wear a straight look, just blow dry and press your hair. It閳ユ獨 very silky when you go for the straight look. It will not frizz up in humidity. I am taking hair vitamins, natural relaxers, and natural products like jojoba oil. I plan to try products like carols daughter for my hair www.carolsdaughter.com

These products works, but remember to trim your hair ever 4 to 6 weeks. Split ends are casue by many things like, heat, dryness, and etc..

I'm tired of getting perms. How can I enhance the natural curl in my hair?

I have gotten perms for a long time, and they destroy my hair. I once spent 2 whole years wearing innerlock braids to get my hair to grow. My hair had gotten very long then, so I want to perm it. The stylist practically destroyed my hair by underperming it so I'd have to come back more often for a touch-up. (I have a hunch that she was trying to make more money, because she charged $70 for each touch-up. How shady is that?) Recently, I cut off the damaged hair to start all over again, but I'm afraid if I get another perm, my hair will get more damaged. My hair is African-American and full of tiny curls, so how can I wear my natural hair nicely?

I'm tired of getting perms. How can I enhance the natural curl in my hair?

go to a new salon.. or if you have really tight tiny curls, you could try a texturizer instead of a perm... or use a childs perm. the childs is like an adult mild..... the texturizer will loosen very tight curl, not remove it... it is only left on for just a few minutes. compared to 5-10 min or longer for some brands.....the texturizer will soften hair and make it a bit more manageable to wear in a natural style......

What are good hair care products to use on an african american infant?

I have a baby girl who is almost 1 year old. I wash her hair every other day and moisturize her scalp with olive oil. Now that she is not a little baby anymore, what are some safe products to use on her hair and scalp?

What are good hair care products to use on an african american infant?

Don't use baby oil or any other petrochemical based ingredients! They are not good for anyone and certainly not for babies.

For example, these type of products are safe ones:

http://www.sensaria.com/ourstory.php

As for the tangles and frizz you should use a vegetable oil in that case. Go to an organic products store and get some pure ecological jojoba oil. Barely apply it to the ends after shampooing. Barely. And as far from the roots as possible. This as a first option, as as secon option:

http://www.sensaria.com/ourstory.php

You shouldn't worry about the look of her hair at this age, though, as long as it is healthy. It is better to avoid as many fabricated products as possible, since she is so young

Hair style help? 10 pts best answer!?

i have 2 things i would like to ask for (u can answer both or just one of them):

1. can u find a picture of a girl with black hair (not african american) with thin highlights?

2. and what kind of hairstyles look good on an asian with a roundish oval face.

Hair style help? 10 pts best answer!?

1)http://www.coquettehair.com/

2)Get More layers. That'll make you hair have more volume. Side bangs, or blunt bangs. You might not like them so, try it out before you cut them. don't do curly hair, curly hair. Styles to avoid are bobs that end at your chin and anything that wisps onto your face as both will only accentuate the roundness.

Instead opt for longer styles that will give the appearance of a longer face.

Good women's hairstyles for round faces are any that give height on the top, or layered longer styles like Kate Winslet's.

I'm an African-American woman who is transitioning to her natural hair. I recently ran across t

and was wondering if I can use that on my hair. My hair is very curly/kinky and super, super dry. I'm really looking for a natural product without all the bad junk in it, i.e. sulfates, mineral and petroleaum oils. Thanks!

I'm an African-American woman who is transitioning to her natural hair. I recently ran across the Organix line

well when i was transitioning i used hair mayonnaise by African organics but i never used Organics line that ur talking about. i did the big chop on August 24 2007 (transition from Nov -August) but the hair manyoness does have mineral oil but that's not the first ingredient i think its water and i don't think that mineral oil are all that bad it just how much u use that's all. but i product that i highly recommend is Cantu soft Shea butter and it doesn't have the mineral oils or petroleum its really good and it really moisturizes my hair and i doing find good luck on ur transitioning!

Garnier...TRESemme...more...bl... girl hair..?

Garnier...TRESemme...more...bl... girl hair..?

Mizani and Kera care have good hair products and can be found at Ulta or Sally's. If you want something cheaper, I like the Neutrogena triple Moisture products, especially the leave-in...Paul Mitchell also makes great products. I recommend Paul Mitchel the conditioner(its actually a leave-in). another cheap way to moisturize ur hair is with olive oil. I' if you have natural or relaxed hair, but here are a couple sites that can help you for either.

African American females what will mousse do to your hair???Help!!!!?

will it be baby soft, etc. should I use it with some do gro moistrizer hair lotion???

African American females what will mousse do to your hair???Help!!!!?

It depends on what's in the mousse. Always read the ingredients. If the first or one of the first ingredients is alcohol don't use it. It will dry out your hair, causing it to become brittle and break off. Most mousses are mainly alcohol and water. Alcohol and water plus black African hair usually equals frizz city. It will definitely suck all the softness out of an afro and leave it feeling like straw. Some mousse products also leave a sticky residue which can cause hairs to stick to each other and become tangled. Tightly coiled and crinkled black African hair needs to be lubricated becuse it has the tendency to kink and the resulting tension and friction of detangling and combing can cause hair to snap and break. I use the term black African to specify the hair of dark skinned people of African descent. Unless you hair is natural virgin hair or strong and healthy, naturally nappy hair that has been chemically treated requires a lot of babying to achieve and maintain length. Unfortunately most products developed to condition hair also tend to make it heavy and sap it of body. Therefore you need a product to set and hold your style especially when heat, sweat and humidity are wreaking havoc on your haido. I know of no mousses which are designed for use on black African hair but I saw these in Essence magazine. Matrix Curl.Life Body Shaping Foam and Motions Foaming Wrap Lotion. They seemed to be geared more toward natural styles or texturized hair. You might give them a try. If your hair is permanently relaxed bone straight and you heat style it you might try a wrap lotion. They are excellent for setting a style. I have limp, heavy, chemically relaxed hair that does not hold a style well. I have used wrap setting lotion and my style stayed for three days in the heat and humidity of the deep dirty South. I believe the product I used is called Isowrap. You can purchase it at Sally Beauty Supply which has several locations nation wide. You can also try going to the websites of manufacturers of black African hair products to try to find what you are looking for. I suggest these companies: Softsheen, African Pride, Africa's Best, Motions, Proline and Revlon. I know this is a lot of information but I hope it helps.

African American females what will mousse do to your hair???Help!!!!?

mousse give my hair a light hold but not heavy and hard to comb out. i usually put mousse on my hair on those lazy days when i just want to pull it back in a ponytail. but when i get home all i have to do is run a brush through it and it's back soft and smooth..so yeah mousse is good. i recommend this kind by suave but it is compared to paul mitchell..it is cheap and good..i hope this helps!

For african american women-Why is the sides of my hair breaking?

I have been trying to take better care of my hair lately, the only issues i have is that the sides of my hair (right at the temples on both sides)looks like it is damaged or could be breaking. Does anyone know what i can do about this?

For african american women-Why is the sides of my hair breaking?

It is NOT because of your hair grease! You may need to moisturize your hair more if it gets really dry like mine does. While grease can be heavy, Pink Oil moisturizer, Moisture Max cream, or Motion's hair lotion (or any other similar product)may be better options. It may be that you pull your braids or your ponytail too tight? Also, try wrapping your hair in a silk scarf at night to prevent breakage from your head rubbing against the pillowcase. Use a good deep condtioner, and also a good leave in conditioner. Don't use relaxers or dyes too often, and minimize the amount of heat you use in your hair. I hope this helps!

For african american women-Why is the sides of my hair breaking?

Makes sense. Report It

For african american women-Why is the sides of my hair breaking?

my dad said it was because of that grease stuff you use

For african american women-Why is the sides of my hair breaking?

If u put perm that can make it happen because that what happen to me and now i just braid my hair no perm

For african american women-Why is the sides of my hair breaking?

It may have been damaged and you need to wait .Braiding tightly ,glue can really harm hair.Condition all of your hair and have a professional ( not a home salon ) take care and give you the tips to a healthier head of hair .That area may just be more notice able to you or more damaged .

For african american women-Why is the sides of my hair breaking?

maybe cause you dont keep it oiled good anough or maybe you need to just clean well oil it every night tie it up and keep your hands out if it so it can grow and be stronger

For african american women-Why is the sides of my hair breaking?

Maybe you have tight braids often. Or when you put your hair in a ponytail, the ponytail is too tight. If you use gel, stop using it. And that "grease" stuff, stop using it for a while and see if you see any changes.

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

Giggles.. now with the question phrased that strongly you know you're not going to get any "real" insight or answers from the Permies.. They are all on the defense now.

Peace n nappiness

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

no. i am affended!

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

i perm my hair because i like the way it looks...nothing against my african features... :)

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

I don't relax my hair, it's natural. Though I have in the past. It's usually when I want a different look. I think my features are hot with or without modifiaction.

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

ashamed of my african features because i perm my hair, hmmm......interesting question. Well im not ashamed of my features at all, but i perm my hair when i want to wear it straight, and i leave it natural when i want to wear it curly or kinky.

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

If I was ashamed of my heritage I would have pulled a Michael Jackson. Straight hair is lower maintenance, more versatile, and its easier to put under a hat! :)

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

No. I relax because I like the way I look.

It's my hair afterall...If I want to look nappy or froed out I'll do that. But it's my personal decision to relax my hair.

And what does being ashamed of my features have to do with anything.

I look damn good!

Relaxed or not (I'm sure).

I'm Black and I'm proud a relaxer does not take away from that and natural hair does not add to that.

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

I don't think African American women should be singled out. White women and many other races alter their natural hair texture by getting perms, etc... And furthermore white people go to the tanning bed so would you say they are afraid of their natural color???? People with straight hair get perms, people with brown hair color it Blonde, and the list goes on. Think about it!!! By the way I am not even black.

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

Because I don't know wut else to do wit ma hiar. when i wuz younga it didn't matter , but now that i'm older wut else am i supposed 2 do ! ....

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

I am natural but I don't find people that have relaxed hair un-enlightened. I hear this mess a the time. Your hairstyle does not represent you understanding of who you are as an African American. Grow up.

Did you go natural to prove that you aren't ashamed of being black. Because if you did that's sad. You shouldn't do anything to make a point for somebody else. Be You. Whatever that is.

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

hi :p even though I'm somewhat mixed my hair is really thick I mean thick but I don't relax my hair all the time I just get it braided so it can grow and stuff. And I'm not ashamed I glad I have a mixed background and what African features would that be the big butt? the frizzy hair the lips? plus most Africans in African are Muslims(except 4 the tribal ones) which goes back way before Jesus' time plus back then women were know 4 wearing wigs and using hair dyes I DONT KNOW WHERE THEY GOT IT FROM lol . But I CANT ANSWER 4 MOST BLACK GIRLS. Peace :p Lil

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

sister, I think you have issues

I'm sure all the hot chics who get all the hot guys can tell you why, but if that helps you raise your self esteem then I'm all for it

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

Well, I don't have a curly perm or a permanent relaxer; my hair is natural and have been for almost a decade. However, when I did do the perm thing it had nothing to do with being ashamed of my African hair. I had it done because the time, strength, and backbone that it took to do my hair were just too much for my poor beautician mother to handle. The funny thing is that as I went natural, I went to several salons that specialized in natural hair but once they put water to my hair, they had a look like, "oh my gosh, what did I just get myself into." I now do my own hair because it takes to long for others to figure it out.

My point is this: don't assume that just because a woman of color has some kind of perm she is ashamed of her features.

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

Well, this is a good question. I wear braids I tried the relaxer thing but I didn't like it. Too much chemicals and stuff. I am proud of my hair and I love wearing braids. Black girls who wear relaxers may not always be ashamed of their hair, they must just like that style.

African American women, why do you relax your hair? Are you ashamed of your African features?

Yes, I believe many of us feel ashamed of our hair.

In the U.S. straight light coloured hair is beautified; whereas tightly curled hair is deemed undesirable, and if you are a woman who happens to have dark or tightly curled hair , or wiry textured hair ; you are expected to do something about it; " they " cannot fathom WHY your hair isn't lightened and/or straightened...

It can be lonely and frustrating...

However, there's always an alternative; you could live a lye !!!

Although, I must say in the defense of those who do choose to lighten and/or straighten their hair, that some do it simply for cosmetic reasons; although I do know from personal experience that depending on what kind of hair you choose to have, will effect the type of men who will approach you; interesting isn't it ?

It's not only African American women who are LYEING : there's also women of white descent, who have mediterranean lineage, and women who have middle eastern descent, and basically anyone who has undesirable hair.

My eldest sister had a Jewish friend who was pressured to " do something " wih her tightly curled , frizzy hair. They wanted her to makit look nice; which meant lightened and straightened... *** sigh ***

Essentially, they felt she looked too Jewish, and they ( friends, and family ) felt that she would be held back in life by her looks... Sad as it may sound, there is truth to that... She ended up getting her nose " done " and lightened and straightened her hair as well ; hey - they were birthday gifts !!!

Another example is Paris Hilton; yes, Paris Hilton !!!

As much wealth and fame as this young girl has , it's still not enough, her hair is bleached , and she wears custom made blue contact lensesto cover her brown eyes... As young and as rich as she is, even she recognises the allure and power of the " Barbie Image ".

Anyhooo, I said all that to say, that we're not the only ones who are trying to look less ethnic; many women from different descents are trying their best to capture beauty; and sorry to say , it tends to lean towards the " Barbie Image ", how else do you explain dark complexioned people sporting blonde wigs/weaves and blue contact lenses ? They believe they're attractive, but in reality, they look possessed !!! *** shudder ***

What can we do ? Why don't we put the bleach, peroxide, perms, relaxers, bleaching creams, colored lenses away, and for a month, celebrate natural beauty ...

It'll take some adjusting to, but think of all the sweet moolah, we'll save !!!

Happy to be nappy, love and light to you, tishy

At the 2007 Teen Choice Awards, the most popular hair style was a left-sided part with long bangs and loose waves. The look can swing either way from a very sexy 40's done 'do like Lauren Conrad's to a nearly undone, beachy look like Hilary Duff's.

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

I have 2 african american children the boy is 3 and the girl is 3 months old (by adoption). I am needing help with how to take care of their hair. I love my children and want to be able to take care of their hair right.

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

Definitely wash and grease the scalp at least once a week. you do not want to let the scalp get dry. you also do not want to put to much grease in it. I recommend Baby Luv and beautiful beginnings hair products for children and they have a nice line of products, which I also use.

For your son you can take him to the barber about once every 2 weeks.

I would recommend that you learn how to braid or at least plait her hair because going to the shop even for children can get expensive especially if you want to keep it up.

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

what r u meaning take care of their hair?

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

I would recommend going to a hair salon that specializes in African American hair care and speaking with someone about how to care for hair. Hairstylists are often very willing to help-- I sometimes even do a little training session when I get a new haircut to learn. Also, there are special hair products out like Pantene's AA Hair Care line that is specially formulated for people with African American Hair.

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

Wash it once a week, comb it and then braid it. Put an organic shay butter lotion in it to keep it moist and to detangle. If it gets to be too much, take them to a hair salon for help.

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

Get a few magazines that talk about hair products and styles.

Take your son to a black barber shop for his hair cuts.

And your daughter's hair can be washed with gentle products every other day for the next 9 months. But you may want to learn how to braid her hair so that it will grow.

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

Because the girl is 3 months old for now, baby oil should be fine. As for the boy, wash his hair once per week depending on the texture, if he has like wavy curly hair maybe 2-3 times per week would work. And since he is 3 he should be going to the barber shop, you can find one in your local town, and they can better assist you. For your daughter when the time comes, go to a hair salon that specializes in African American hair (and Toni and Guy is not it.)

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

as an african american female who's mother did not know what the heck she was doing-- i highly suggest you take them to a salon and WATCH the hair dresser. in order to find a good one, ask someone. in the mall, at the grocery store. if you see someone who has pretty, well kempt hair, ask! we'll tell! lol but please, PLEASE, don't try to do it urself if you dont know what ur doing. i beg you. lol the things my parents did to my head really traumatized me growing up- kids made fun of me... it just wasnt nice. lol so PLEASE, go to a salon until you've got it down.

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

i dont know but if u go to the hair shop they can give u full details

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

Irecomend for the boy to just take himto a barber shop to get his her cut if it get to wild or get it braided a nice hair cut on a brother looks good and braids the girl is to young but when her hair is long enough put in little bows on or baurets and braid ontly if you can braid or twist at the endand a little snap to hold it and but if u dont know wat u doin take her to the beauty shop for african americans and ask a lot of questions and they'll tell you wat to do

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

Oil. Oil. Oil. Oil. Oil. And find someone with their hair texture to cut it for you. And oil some more.

The oil will make it easy for you to comb, less tangled for less fussing, and makes it gorgeous and shiny. Just remember to NEVER use mineral oil- even baby oil will dry their hair out. Try Jojoba or Coconut oil. Vo5 hairdressing creme should work good, too.

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

I have always heard that coconut oil is the best. and I also recommend taking then to someone who knows what they are doing. G-luck

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

a little boy 3 yrs old......please shampoo with his daily bath. Also please don't pack the kids hair with hair oil, use pink oil lotion or pantene oil moisturizing cream. It smells better.

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

keep their hair low cut..take them to a black barber and they'll kno what to do..make sure their hair always has "grease" lol try african pride products or lusters pink lotion you dont have to put it in dailty but only between cuts when u wanna brush it and make it look desent

How to take care of fAfrican American hair?

For the boy just take him to get a hair cut, and keep Murry's grease on it so it wont get dry,and brush the top down as well as the rest. sorry don't know how to do her hair. Take her to get it done when old enough.

Any good hair salons in the L.A. area?....?

I just moved to LA from NYC where I used to get my hair blown out at a dominican salon, really any domincan salon because they really know how to do hair and at a really reasonable price too!

I have really thick, curly, long hair and I don't want my hair pressed like they usually end up suggesting and doing to my hair at African-American salons.

So does anyone here know of a good place to get my kind of hair blown out?

Thanks in advance!!

Any good hair salons in the L.A. area?....?

The person above is incorrect. L.A. has some of the best hair salons e.g. Carlton, Umberto (not sure if that's how you spell it). I Googled it and found a website for the best Dominican hair places in the country and sure enough there were some in L.A. For example, here's the address of one: Dominican Salon

8440 Laurel Canyon

Sun Valley, Ca 91352

818-767-2711

Ask for Clara (owner)

Flat iron, Blow dry- Roller sets

Here's the website: http://bloglatina.wordpress.com/2007/05/...

Any good hair salons in the L.A. area?....?

No, LA is just the capital of the movie and TV world, so there are no good hair salons in LA...

What hair products do I use for my African American daughter? She's 3 years old?

My 3 year old has soft, long thick hair, and I want to keep it up, but it looks like it is starting to break. I was using Baby Love, and products like that, but they seemed to leave a film in her hair and was very sticky. I also tried this product with Aloe made for babies, but that kept it manageable but dry.

I don't want her hair to fall out and I want to keep it heathly, please tell me what products you use, or what products you recommend.

What hair products do I use for my African American daughter? She's 3 years old?

Make sure you use a really good shampoo and conditioner. I personally have a toddler and I use my own products on her hair. She has very curly hair so I use TIGI Curls Rock on her hair. I also use a detangler/leave in conditioner. Lastly I use Motions hairdress. The whited colored product. Its not heavy and it won't leave a film. Remember that those baby shampoos aren't really catered to AA. Their pH balance is usually really unbalanced which causes the hair to be dry and brittle.

What hair products do I use for my African American daughter? She's 3 years old?

use pink lotion oil moisturier for the hair

What hair products do I use for my African American daughter? She's 3 years old?

pink oil moisturizer, just for me grease or moisturizing lotion, and be sure to grease it every 2-3 days!!

On average how many times should I wash my hair weekly of I am African American?

if your hair is chemically str8 you should washit every other wk[every 2wks] becuase if u wash it too regularly u would loose all your natural oils and your hair will get britle.

otherwise u should still wash every other wk.

On average how many times should I wash my hair weekly of I am African American?

You should wash you hair Every 2 weeks or once a month.Being black and having black people hair if you wash your hair to much your natural oils will be stripped out.

On average how many times should I wash my hair weekly of I am African American?

once a week, or just when ever you feel your hair is looking bad

On average how many times should I wash my hair weekly of I am African American?

I wash my hair every 2 weeks. if you are a african american male and have cut you hair, everyday. but if you are a girl, you wash your hair every 2 weeks. that is standard. i used to wonder the same thing.

On average how many times should I wash my hair weekly of I am African American?

Once a week. And get a good moisturizer.

On average how many times should I wash my hair weekly of I am African American?

1

On average how many times should I wash my hair weekly of I am African American?

everyday the same as everyone else. No difference.

On average how many times should I wash my hair weekly of I am African American?

wash ur hair once a week

On average how many times should I wash my hair weekly of I am African American?

It depends on what chemicals (if any) you have in your hair. I think once a week is probably enough unless you are working out a lot and perspire a lot. Any more than that (every day as someone suggested) and you'll look like you have a straw broom on your head! Black hair needs moisture. If you wash it too much, you strip all the natural moisture and oils out.

Find a good stylist in your city. A good stylist can answer your questions and suggest the right products for your hair type and environment. Different products for different types of black hair and for the climate in which you live.

Hope this helps...

On average how many times should I wash my hair weekly of I am African American?

You can never wash your hair everyday you know that but you can choose between washing it once a week or every two weeks being african american we cannot wash our hair everyday or your scalp would lose it's natural oils that has been already mention in others answers which is true which you should already know but sometimes we want the best way to do things so make sure you choose once a week or once every two weeks only, for best results!

On average how many times should I wash my hair weekly of I am African American?

If I don't use alot of oil sheen that week its every two weeks, if I do use alot of oil sheen once a week. Africian Americans should not wash there hair more than once a week.
