I'm an African American Woman and my hair is straight at the ends and kinky at the top.. Why is

I been takin' care of my hair for a really long time, I've been permin' it properly, every 4 weeks and now I'm startin' to see some breakage and it's mostly at the ends of my hair, the straight part and I'm noticin' some parts of my hair are shorter in certain places and it's stops at the kinky part of my hair.. Im thinkin' the straight hair is damaged hair but I really don't know.. I don't wanna cut if off.. Any help?

its straight at the ends cause of the perm. it never goes away. your hair will always be straight unless you shave it off. its kinky at the roots cuz you need to perm your roots. thats the new hair that just grew and needs to be permed. perming your hair does make your ends split big time. this will continue. you just need to keep it moisturized.
