How can I get my hair to grow long and thick (African American)?

Well If you have a perm it may be breaking off. I suggest you keep your hair well moisturized at all time, wrap it at night, and don't put it in ponytails or comb it too often to minimize the breakage.

Try massaging with coconut oil...also take vitamins for hair...and have sea kelp

First of all you need to keep the end clipped. Clipping your ends give your hair the look of health. Use Pantene Pro-V Relaxed and Natural shampoo and conditioner. Make sure your scalp and ends are are moisturized with either light oil or light grease so it wont get weighed down to much.

Stop relaxing it. Keep it moisturized all the time. When it gets dry, it breaks off easily. If you want straight, flat iron and use a pressing oil or moisturizer to keep your hair from frying. If you feel the need to use a relaxer, try to stretch it to 12 weeks instead of 4-5 weeks by using Care Free Curl spray. It will soften the tight curls and prolong your relaxer for weeks. Only relax if it gets TOO unmanagable, or like suggested before, use a flat iron to straighten.

Create a hair regimen of products to use everyday on your hair and stick to it. You have not told me what type of hair you have. So i can't give you any product ideas for your daily regimen.

You can't. If you don't have naturally long and thick hair, you just can't make it grow that way.
