I am african-american and I wear my hair natural..do you think that is a problem when getting a offi

I've been wearing my hair natural for awhile now and I am looking for a job. My father says you can't wear your hair natural when looking for a office job. Receptionist/administrative assistant. I told him I know people who have gotten jobs with their hair natural. He said maybe they didn't have it that way during the interview. I said yes they did. Do you think we still have to straighten our hair?

I don't feel like you need to straighten your hair. Just make sure that you keep it nice. Make sure that you keep your hair clean and always look presentable. Your hair has little to do with your abilities. Make sure that along with your hair your appearance it well put together. I don't think you should have a problem.

no, if they made you look a certain way, that would be illegal.

they can't discriminate based on what you look like.

i don't think they'll care about you're hair.....as long as you're good at what you do.

WHAT???

I agree with the first answer!

I am relaxed, but it isn't because of my job or anything, it's because I've always been relaxed (well for as long as i can remember). If someone doesn't want to hire you for your curly hair, that's plain stupid. You shouldn't want to work with a bunch of bigots. But if you come in with a big ugly fro then I suppose I could understand them judging you. Natural hair can be very pretty! Keep it in one big puff pulled back with a black headband, or one low afro puff or in a twistout.

Sorry, but i think this question is pretty darn stupid.

And to the person who answered asking what is natural: It is basically how black people's hair is before they relax(permanently straighten- opposite of a "perm) it- very very curly.
