Why does it take a long time for Most girls who are african-american to grow there hair?

Their hair doesn't grow slower than other people's. It's just that it's curly. If you straighten it, it will be a lot longer.

Because they use to much heat and chemicals causing it to break instead of grow.

probably because they dont keep their ends clipped %26amp; healthy. my hair %26amp; my daughters grow great

I think it is because it is naturally coarse and curly and can become very dry from washing, making it easier for it to break off.

Why does it take a long time for Most girls who are african-american to grow there hair?

because we have really coarse hair

I believe because African Americans have alot of grease in their hair. But if you find a solution please tell me.

Well the key is to keep your hair healthy and keep the edges trimmed. Refrain from heat better yet go to the beauty shop and see what they suggest.

Because it is most likely to be chemically treated. They braid it a lot, put way to much weave (whether its glued in or sewed) and it just brakes off. They use heat way too much. They hate to get their hair trimmed. Also, they don't wash their hair as often as they should fearing that it will dry out their hair; if they washed it, it would massage the scalp, thus stimulating hair growth.

Suggestion: Wash your hair at least weekly, instead of whenever you take your weaves or braids out. Blow dry it straight once or twice a week. Brush it for 5-10 minutes every night, wrap it. Trim it every month, every other month. Lay off heat, braids, and weave for a while or not as often.

It isn't that it takes longer to grow it is that most African Americans don't take good care of their hair. Relaxers kill hair no matter how gentle they are, and though braids can be therapeutic they are often done so tight they break out dry hair. Because it seems like the hair takes longer to grow many people are hesitant to get it trimmed but a good trim is necessary to keep hair healthy. I have moved on past the need for my hair to be fried dyed and laid to the side and have locked my hair I keep my locks neat and twisted to the scalp and lightly oiled. My hair is now down to my behind and I am constantly getting compliments...... plus my hair is very healthy and natural and grows like a weed!

Its not that it grows slow, its that its breaking off faster than its growing.

Contrary to popular belief african american type hair is fragile compared to other races. So all the relaxing, heat styliing (which we are famouse for), and colors take a toll on their hair. I mean take a look at some caucasion women that are still able to grow long hair (although thin and stringy) despite having blond highlights and perm.

Because back in the day,Africans had to spend a long time in the sun.And that generation was passed down to use. That is why blacks need more grease and growth products than whites. But,we are still beautiful no matter what.

If you want to grow your hair longer than I suggest TEA TREE OIL(sold at Walgreen's)

It does not take long for hair to grow. It does not have anything to do with chemicals. I personally have used relaxers, texturizers, I have bleached my hair and colored it too many times to mention. I take really good care of my hair, though not to the extreme. I trim it myself, color it myself, relax it myself. I use to wear it short and wavy or curly, then I was going to the barber to have him cut and fade it. It is now long enough to curl and flip. I use all kinds of products, from white hair care products to black hair care products. I love VO5, Black Sassy, Revitalizing Cream. I just never had a problem. I have not had my hair blown dry since i was 30 years old. I hate hair salons, I don't have the time or patience, too much life to live to sit up there for hours at a time. My suggestion after saying all of this, girl, just find the products that suit you, don't wash your hair once a week, which tends to dry our scalps more, use a leave in condition, Nexxus is a good one. And sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. This will not break your hair off.

Why does it take a long time for Most girls who are african-american to grow there hair?

maybe because their hair are naturally bushy and curly..so it'll seem like it grows slowly..but maybe once you've straightened the hair it would seem longer or something like that...

African American hair is courser than European hair, which means it is tightly curled at the root. Anytime you have something coiled trying to push through something straight (hair shaft) its going to take longer than something straight (European hair) it's going to get through quicker.
